How to Perform Impersonation while connecting to a data source in Bold BI for MS SQL and SSAS Connections
Published:
Impersonation in Bold BI allows users to connect to data sources such as Microsoft SQL Server or Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services using their own credentials. This ensures that the data source is accessed with the appropriate permissions for each user.
Pre-requisites
Before performing impersonation, you need to:
- Configure the Active Directory (AD) settings in Bold BI. Follow the instructions in the Active Directory Configuration guide.
- Import the AD users into Bold BI. Follow the steps in the Import Active Directory Users guide.
- Assign appropriate permissions for the users. Refer to the Manage Permissions guide.
Performing Impersonation
To perform impersonation in Bold BI, follow these steps:
- Log in to Bold BI with your user credentials.
- Select the Impersonate User option while connecting to a Microsoft SQL Server or Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services data source.
- The SQL Server will be impersonated to the logged-in user, allowing you to create dashboards using your own credentials.
- When another user logs in to Bold BI, the server will be impersonated to their credentials, ensuring that they have the appropriate access to the data source.
By following these steps, you can successfully perform impersonation in Bold BI using the Impersonate User option while connecting to a data source.
