Merge Data Sources in Bold BI: Step-by-Step Guide

Published:

Merging data sources in Bold BI is a common task that allows users to create comprehensive reports and dashboards by integrating data from different tables or sources. To merge data sources effectively, it is essential to understand the relationships between the tables and how to use the data blending feature in Bold BI.

Understanding Data Relationships

Before merging data sources, it is crucial to identify the common column that will serve as the link between the tables. In this scenario, the common column is the Property ID, which is present in both the Property Table and the Applicants Table. This common column will be used to join the tables and create a unified data source.

  1. Define the Join Type:
Choose the appropriate join type based on the relationship between your tables. The join types include Inner Join, Left Join, Right Join, and Full Outer Join. Select the one that best suits your data structure and the information you want to retrieve.

  2. Select Columns:
After establishing the join, select the columns you want to include in your merged data source. For instance, you may want to include the PropertyID from the Property Table and all relevant columns from the Applicants Table.

  3. Save the Data Source:
Once you have configured the join and selected the necessary columns, save the new data source.

  4. Preview and Validate:
Preview the merged data source to ensure that the data is combined correctly and that the PropertyID for each applicant is visible as required.

  5. Use in Dashboard:
With the merged data source ready, you can now use it to create visualizations and dashboards in Bold BI.

Ensure that the data types of the common columns match to avoid any issues during the join process.
