How to Resolve "HTTP Error 503" in Windows IIS

In a Windows environment, the Bold BI Enterprise application can be hosted in IIS. This article will explain how to resolve the "HTTP Error 503. The service is unavailable" issue, which occurs when any of the application pools stop in IIS, as shown below.

The Bold BI application contains multiple services, and each service has an individual application pool. Please refer to KB Bold BI Services and Application Pools in Windows IIS for more details.


To resolve the "HTTP Error 503. The service is unavailable" issue, please follow the steps below:

  1. Open the Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager by referring to How to: Open IIS Manager | Microsoft Learn
  2. Navigate to the Application Pools section, as shown below.

  3. Check and start the application pool that has been stopped, as shown in the image below.

  4. Now, access the Bold BI site and confirm whether it is working.


If any of the application pools were stopped, then please share the details below through a ticket, and it will help us to investigate the cause of the issue.

  1. Name of the application pool that was stopped.
  2. The event viewer logs from the previous day whenever this issue occurs.
