How to Change Widget Caption Based on Users

Published:

To change the widget caption and title based on users in BoldBI, you need to configure a data source with a user-based filter and use an expression syntax in the widget title property.

Follow the steps below to achieve this:

  1. Navigate to the Data Sources page.
  2. Create a new data source and configure user based filter.

    In the above case, we have used the Data Source option for configuring a user-based filter.
    Before creating this data source we have created another data source called "userlogin_ds" which contains the mapping information.
    The mapping data source should contain any of the Identity columns (Email, Full Name or Group Name).
    We selected the Identity as an email which is the Identity of the user in Bold BI and the data source mapping column as "first_name" because both data sources have this common column to map.
    For more information about how to configure user filters, refer to this link.

  3. Click Continue to dashboard and then drag and drop any widget in the design panel.
  4. Click the widget's settings icon. In the property panel, use the data source column name in the Name property as an expression as shown.

    {{:
    column_name}}

  5. Preview or publish the dashboard. Now it will render the widget title based on the user login. You can also check that in the impersonate preview mode as shown in the following gif image.
