How to Use the Redesigned Dimension Filter in a Dashboard

Published:

Overview

The Dimension Filter has been redesigned to provide more space for viewing, selecting, and managing dimension values, making it easier to work with fields containing a large number of values.
The redesigned filter interface includes List, Condition, and Rank filtering options.

Configuring the Dimension Filter

To customize the filtering behavior of a dimension field, drag and drop the required Dimension Field into the control designer and open the filter settings.
The Dimension Filter displays the List, Condition, and Rank sections, which can be configured based on the filtering requirement.

List-based filtering

Through this filtering, you can filter specific items from consideration. You can enable it by clicking the List toggle button.
The List section allows you to select specific values for filtering. It contains two panels:

  • Available Values: Displays the values available in the selected dimension field.
  • Selected Values: Displays the values chosen for filtering.
Use the Search values option in either panel to quickly find a specific value.

Use the following options to manage values:
Add >: Moves the checked values to Selected Values.
Add All >>: Moves all available values to Selected Values.
< Remove: Removes the checked values from Selected Values.
<< Remove All: Removes all values from Selected Values.

The footer of each panel displays the current value range and checked-value count. The interface also supports scrolling through large sets of values.

After selecting the required values, choose:
Include: Includes the selected values in the filtered results.
Exclude: Excludes the selected values from the filtered results.

The Search text box helps you to filter the items from the large list and search for a specific one in both Available and Selected Values sections.

Click Apply Filter to save the changes made in the filter list.

Click Cancel to cancel the changes made in the filter list if required.

NOTE: This redesigned Dimension Filter experience is available starting with Bold BI version 17.1.30 and later.

Condition-based filtering

Through this filtering, you can impose a condition based on which the filter needs to be applied. This filtering option is disabled by default. You can enable it by clicking the Condition toggle button.
