What Data Is Sent to the AI Provider During Summarization and Q&A in Bold BI?
The data transmitted to the AI model depends on the configured AI provider and the AI feature being used.
Data Sent During Q&A / Text-based AI Queries
When users interact with the AI-powered Q&A feature, Bold BI sends only the information required to understand the request and generate a response.
This may include:
- User question or prompt
- Data source schema information
- Table names
- Column names
- Data types
- Processed query results required to generate the answer
Example
User Question:
How many orders were closed in 2024?
Information that may be sent:
- question: “How many orders were closed in 2024?”
- schema:
- table: orders,
- column: order_status
- result:
- orders_closed: 20
The AI provider uses the above informations to generate a natural-language response for the user.
Data Sent During Dashboard Summarization and Widget Insights
For Dashboard Summarization and Widget Insights, the AI model requires information about the visualization and its underlying displayed data. This can include:
- Widget metadata, such as the widget name, widget type, and axis names
- Data points associated with the widget
This information enables the AI model to identify trends, patterns, and key insights and generate meaningful summaries.
Important Note
Raw data is not transmitted for every AI operation. Some AI features, such as visual creation, primarily utilize data source schema information without sending actual data records. However, features that require data interpretation, such as text-based Q&A, Dashboard Summarization, and Widget Insights, may transmit relevant processed results or visualization data points to the configured AI provider to generate meaningful responses and insights.
The destination of this information depends on the AI provider configured within the Bold BI environment. Bold BI supports BYOK (Bring Your Own Key) and allows integration with AI providers such as OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, and Claude (Anthropic). If your organization uses its own AI provider or API credentials, all AI-related requests are sent directly to the configured provider.
If you do not have OpenAI or Azure OpenAI, you can utilize the Bold AI Service, which is powered by Azure OpenAI and managed directly by the Bold BI team. Every active Bold BI license includes 500 free AI Credits per month. These credits are added to the license wallet at the beginning of each billing cycle and are available for immediate use.
