Conditional Formatting Based on a Dimension Field Not Configured in the Grid

Published:

Overview

In Bold BI Grid widgets, conditional formatting can be applied based on measure or dimension fields. When a dimension is selected as the Based On Field, text-based conditions become available.

However, if the required dimension is not configured in the Grid, certain text-based conditions, such as Contains, may not be available.

For example, consider a Grid widget where Country and Sum of Freight are configured as columns.

When configuring conditional formatting, if another dimension such as City is selected in the Based On field but City is not configured as a column in the Grid, the expected text-based conditions may not be available.

In this scenario, string-based conditions such as Starts With, Ends With, Contains, and Not Contains are not available.

Workaround: Add the required dimension as a Hidden Column

To make the expected dimension-based conditions available, add the required dimension, City, to the Hidden Columns section of the Grid widget.

After adding City as a hidden column, navigate to the conditional formatting Advanced Settings and select City in the Based On field. The expected dimension-based conditions are then available under Condition Type, such as Contains

This allows conditional formatting to be applied based on the City dimension without displaying the City field as a visible column in the Grid.
