How to Schedule a Dashboard for the Current Week Using Dashboard Views in Bold BI

Published:

Overview

Organizations often require scheduled dashboard reports that automatically include data for the current week date filters before each schedule execution.

In Bold BI, this can be achieved by combining a Relative Date Filter with Dashboard Views. By configuring a date filter to use the Current Week relative date option and saving it as a dashboard view, scheduled reports can dynamically evaluate the latest week's data whenever the schedule runs.

This approach ensures that recipients always receive reports containing only the current week's data while eliminating the need for manual intervention.

.

Step 1: Configure a Relative Date Filter

  1. Open the required dashboard.
  2. Add or configure a Date Range Filter widget and Enable the Range option
    .
  3. Click the Settings icon for the configured date column.
  4. Select Relative Date and Click edit
  5. Configure the relative date option as Current Week.

  6. Click Apply.

Step 2: Save the Filter as a Dashboard View

  1. Apply the configured Current Week relative date filter.
  2. Click Filter Overview.
  3. Select the Save icon.
  4. Enter a name for the dashboard view (for example, Testview).

  5. Click Save.

The dashboard view is now created successfully.

  • When the saved view is applied, only the filtered records are displayed.
  • Without the saved view, the dashboard displays all available records.

Step 3: Create a Dashboard Schedule

  1. Navigate to Schedules and create a new dashboard schedule.
  2. Select the dashboard.
  3. Under Dashboard View, choose the previously created Current Week view.

  4. Change the schedule frequency from Daily to Weekly.

  5. Configure the remaining schedule options, including recipients, export format, and delivery settings.
  6. Click Next and complete the schedule configuration.
  7. Save the schedule.

    Result

    Once the schedule is configured:

    • The dashboard report is generated automatically based on the defined weekly schedule.
    • The Current Week relative date filter is evaluated at runtime.
    • Every generated report contains only the current week's data.
    • Users always receive the most recent weekly data without updating filters manually.
    • The schedule continues to work dynamically as time progresses.

    Best Practices

Consider the following recommendations when implementing this approach:

    • Use descriptive names for dashboard views such as Current Week Report, Weekly Sales View, or Weekly Operations Summary.
    • Validate the dashboard view before associating it with a schedule.
    • Use relative date filters instead of fixed date ranges for recurring reports.
    • Review schedule execution periodically to ensure recipients receive the expected data.
