How to Fix Stale or Outdated Widget Data Using Data Cache Configuration in Bold BI
Published:
In embedded Bold BI dashboards, widgets may render blank (“data wipe-out”) or appear misaligned after switching between dashboards if cached widget data becomes stale.
This article shows how to validate the issue and fix it using Data Cache Configuration (in-memory/Redis) and Clear cache on the Bold BI Server.
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Confirm the issue is cache-related
- Load Dashboard A in your embedded app and wait until widgets fully render.
- Switch to Dashboard B, then switch back to Dashboard A.
- If widgets become blank or positions shift without any design changes, caching is a likely cause.
Step 2: Open Data Cache Configuration on the Bold BI Server
- Sign in to Bold BI Server.
- Click on the profile icon to navigate to Site Administration.
- Click on the settings icon and select Data Process Settings.
- Select the Data Cache Configuration tab.
Step 3: Clear the existing cached widget data**
- In Data Cache Configuration, select Clear cache.
- Reload the embedded dashboards and repeat the dashboard switching test.
- Expected outcome: dashboards should render with fresh widget data after the cache is cleared.
Step 4: Choose the correct cache mode (In-Memory vs Redis)**
- In Mode selection, choose one:
- In-Memory: caches in the Bold BI service memory (RAM). Suitable for small loads, but can be unstable under heavy usage or large cache size.
- Redis: caches in an external Redis server (recommended for more consistent caching behavior in scalable environments).
- If using Redis, provide the connection string and use Test connection to validate.
Step 5: Re-test switching dashboards in the embedded app**
- Reload your embedded page (hard refresh).
- Switch between dashboards multiple times (A → B → A → B).
- Confirm widgets consistently load data and keep their layout.
Step 6: (Optional) Disable the “data refreshed time” display**
- In the same Data Cache configuration page, use the checkbox to disable the data refreshed time shown on the dashboard view page (if your UX requires it).
