How to Concatenate Multiple Fields into a Single Multi-Line Column in a Bold BI Grid Widget
In Bold BI, Grid widgets are often used to display record-level data such as customer profiles, invoices, or order summaries. When multiple related fields need to be shown together, adding many separate columns can lead to horizontal scrolling and reduced readability.
This article explains how to concatenate multiple fields into a single multi-line column in a Grid widget using an Expression (calculated field). This approach helps you create a compact, “details-style” layout directly within the Grid while keeping dashboards clean and user-friendly.
Step-by-Step Guide:
Step 1. Open the required dashboard in Bold BI Dashboard Designer.
Step 2. Select the Grid widget (or add one from the widgets panel if needed).
Step 3. Add a primary identifier field (for example, Account Name or Company Name) as the first column.
-
Click on the settings icon of the Grid widget to navigate to the Grid’s Assign Data (data configuration) area.
-
Select the required primary identifier and add to the column section.
-
Click Add Expression to create a calculated field.
Step 4. Name the expression (for example, Customer Details) and build the concatenation expression.
- Use labels (like
Region:) plus the fields you want. - Add line breaks so each item appears on a new line (to match your target layout).
Note: Line breaks are rendered using HTML <br> tags inside expressions.
CONCAT(
'Account Code: ', [AccountCode], '<br>',
'Invoice Value: ', [InvoiceValue], '<br>',
'Invoice Date: ', [InvoiceDate], '<br>',
'Region: ', [Region]
)
- If any field may contain null values, use IFNULL() to avoid blank output.
Step 5. Save the expression and add it as a column in the Grid (just like any other field).
- Optionally enable Vertical lines in the Grid widget’s property panel.
Result
- The Grid displays one row per primary identifier (for example, customer or account), with all related field values shown in a single multi-line column, improving readability and reducing horizontal scrolling.

Conclusion
- By leveraging CONCAT, HTML line breaks, and grid configuration options, users can create a clean, compact, and readable details view directly inside a grid widget—making dashboards more user-friendly, especially when dealing with dense datasets.
