How to Show Value Labels Outside a Column Chart or Bar Chart in Bold BI
Published:
This article explains how to display value labels outside a Column Chart or Bar Chart in Bold BI Dashboard Designer.
Showing labels outside the bars or columns can improve readability, especially when the chart contains small values or tightly packed data points.
Step-by-step instructions
Step 1: Open the dashboard in edit mode
- Open Bold BI Dashboard Designer.
- Open an existing dashboard in Edit mode, or create a new dashboard.
Step 2: Add a Column Chart or Bar Chart widget
- Add either a Column Chart or Bar Chart widget to the dashboard.
- Configure the widget data:
- Drag a dimension field into Column(s).
- Drag a measure field into Value(s).
Step 3: Enable value labels
- Open the widget Properties panel.
- Go to Basic Settings.
- Enable Show Value Labels.
Note: In Bold BI, the value-label-related settings become available only after Show Value Labels is enabled.
Step 4: Set the label position to Outer
- In the same Basic Settings section, find Value Label Position.
- Select Outer.
This places the value labels outside the bars or columns for improved visibility.
Step 5: Save the dashboard
- Click Save.
- Publish the dashboard if your environment requires publishing before users can access the updated view.
Notes
- If labels overlap or become hidden, consider resizing the widget.
- You can also use Value Label Rotation if the labels need additional space.
- The exact appearance may vary depending on the number of data points and widget size.
