How to bulk move dashboards across categories in Bold BI
Published:
This article explains how to move multiple dashboards from one category to another in Bold BI.
This feature helps administrators and authorized users reorganize dashboards more efficiently without moving each dashboard individually.
Ensure the following:
- Your Bold BI Server version is v15.1.65 or later
- You have Edit or Manage permission for the dashboards you want to move
- The destination category already exists
- You have access to the destination category (see Limitations)
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Sign in to Bold BI Server and open the Dashboards page.
- From the Category list, locate the source category, click the ellipsis (⋯) action menu, and select Move Dashboards.
2. The Move Dashboards dialog box appears.
- In this dialog box, use the category selector to search for or choose the destination category.
- This dialog box lists all dashboards in the selected source category and allows you to perform bulk actions.
- Click in the checkboxes to choose the dashboards you wish to move
3. Click Move to confirm.
Expected behavior
- Dashboard permissions remain unchanged after the move.
- Dashboard URLs are not modified by the move operation.
- Scheduled exports and data refresh settings continue to work after the move.
- Dashboards are moved only within the same tenant.
Limitations
- You cannot move dashboards into categories you don’t have access to.
- You cannot create a new category during the move operation (the target category must already exist).
- This feature does not support moving dashboards across environments (for example, Dev → QA → Prod).
Troubleshooting
“Move to Category” option is not displayed
- Select at least two dashboards (bulk actions typically appear only when multiple items are selected).
- Confirm your permissions (you need Edit or Manage for the selected dashboards).
- Verify the Bold BI Server version is v15.1.65+ (this feature was introduced in v15.1.65).
Dashboards were not moved
- Refresh the Dashboards page and check the destination category.
- Confirm you have access to the destination category and that category-level restrictions are not blocking the move.
- Re-check dashboard permissions for any selected dashboards that may not allow edit/manage actions.
