How to Simulate Chart Annotations in Bold BI Using Combined Widgets

Published:

Bold BI currently does not support native chart annotations. However, users can achieve similar functionality using a workaround that combines chart widgets with Rich Text Editor (RTE) and combined layout widget. This method allows you to add static text or graphical elements to emphasize or clarify specific data points, trends, or sections in your dashboard.

Use Cases

This workaround is ideal for:

  • Highlighting peaks or dips in data
  • Adding contextual notes beside charts
  • Explaining anomalies or trends visually

Steps to Implement

  1. Launch the Dashboard Designer: Open the Bold BI Dashboard Designer to start creating your dashboard.

  2. Insert a Combined Widget: Within the Designer layout, add a combined widget to your dashboard.

  1. Customize the Text: You can enter text directly into the Rich Text Editor or use the code editing option to format your annotations as needed.

Conclusion

While Bold BI does not currently offer native chart annotation support, the workaround using Rich Text Editor and layout widgets provides a flexible and effective alternative for adding contextual insights to your dashboards. This method allows you to visually highlight trends, anomalies, or key data points without compromising the clarity of your charts.
