How to Apply Widget-Level Filters in Bold BI Pivot Grid

Published:

Widget-level filtering in Bold BI enables users to apply targeted filters directly to a Pivot Grid Widget, eliminating the need for separate filter widgets. This feature allows for precise data customization within a specific widget, ensuring focused and relevant data views without affecting other dashboard elements.
The following steps outline two methods to configure widget-level filters using the Assigned Data section or the dedicated Filters section in Bold BI.

When to Use Each Method

The Pivot Grid widget supports widget-level filtering in two different ways. Choose the method based on whether the field used for filtering should be displayed in the Pivot Grid.

Scenario Method 1: Using Field Settings in Rows or Columns Method 2: Using the Filters Section
Filter field is displayed in the Pivot Grid Yes No
Filter field should remain hidden No Yes
Field is already added to Rows or Columns Yes Not required
Field is used only for filtering No Yes
Typical use case Filter visible row or column data Apply a background filter without displaying the field

Example

Requirement Recommended Method
The Country field is added to the Rows section and you want to display only selected countries. Method 1: Using Field Settings in Rows or Columns
You want to filter data by Country, but do not want the Country field to appear in the Pivot Grid. Method 2: Using the Filters Section

Note

Both methods apply widget-level filters only to the selected Pivot Grid widget. The difference is that:

  • Method 1 is suitable when the filter field is visible in the Pivot Grid.
  • Method 2 is suitable when the filter field should remain hidden and be used only for filtering data.
