How to Configure the Period Over Period (PoP) Widget Alongside the Grid Widget and Growth Metrics
Published:
Overview
The Period Over Period (PoP) widget is a powerful tool that automatically analyzes and presents data for designated columns in its linked slave widget. This allows for a side-by-side comparison of data across different time periods, such as comparing January with February. Additionally, the PoP widget includes growth metrics to indicate whether the trend is rising or falling.
Steps to Configure the PoP Widget with the Grid Widget
1. Dataset & Widgets Setup
- Begin by dragging and dropping the Period Over Period (PoP) widget and the Grid Widget onto your workspace.
- For the PoP widget, ensure to drag the Date column from your dataset.
2. Grid Widget Configuration
- In the Grid Widget, drag the necessary column you wish to analyze (for example, the UnitPrice column).
- The objective here is to compare the UnitPrice between different date ranges, such as January 2025 and February 2025.
3. Link the Grid Widget to PoP Widget
- Set the Grid Widget as a slave widget to the PoP Widget to establish the connection between the two.
4. PoP Customization in Grid Widget
- Access the Properties of the Grid Widget and locate the PoP Customization section.
- Here, you can select the secondary value, known as the “Compare To” value.
- Click the Customize button under PoP Customization and choose the secondary value from the period selected in the PoP widget.
5. Column Alignment Configuration
- Click the + icon under Column Alignment to configure the settings.
- Set the Actual Value to the Sum of UnitPrice_Secondary.
- In the PoP widget, you can choose between two ranges: the Date Range and the “Compare To” range. The Actual Value will pull data from the Compare To range. For example, if comparing January 2025 to February 2025, the Actual Value will reflect the February data.
- For the Target Value, set it to the Sum of UnitPrice_Primary (the value from January 2025).
- Set the Value Type to Actual value and click OK.
6. Selecting Date Ranges for Comparison
- Select the date range from January 1st, 2025, to January 4th, 2025, and set the Compare To range to February 1st, 2025, to February 5th, 2025.
- The grid will update to display the comparison. The difference will show the variation between the data from January and February. For instance, if the secondary value for a product increased compared to the primary value, it will be reflected in the difference column.
By following these steps, you can effectively configure the PoP widget alongside the Grid Widget and analyze growth metrics for better insights into your data.
