Adding Custom Menu Items in Bold BI Navigation Menu

You can enhance the navigation experience in your Bold BI site by adding custom menu items alongside the default side menu items. Follow the steps below to customize the menu items using the custom_ui.json file.

Steps to Customize Menu Items

  1. Access UMS Settings:

    • Navigate to the UMS Settings page. Example URL: http://{yourdomain}/ums/administration
    • Select the Configuration tab from the settings menu.
    • Choose custom_ui.json from the Search your files drop-down.

  2. Configure Site Name:

    • In the Name field, specify the site name for which you want to add the custom menu.
    • Add a “Profile” name and assign it in the Profiles section’s Name field.

  3. Configure Menu Item Details:

    • In the CustomMenus node, configure the details of the menu items as required.

  • Name: Specify the name of the scheme. This can be used to identify the scheme in the profiles.
  • Display: Name that should be shown in the menu item.
  • Order: Position of the menu item when displayed in the left side menu bar.
  • ImageLink: URL of the image to be displayed in the menu item.
  • OpenLink: URL of the site/page to navigate to when the menu item is clicked.
  • OpenBehavior: Determines whether the custom menu page opens in the same page or in a new tab.
  • ShowMenu: Determines whether the custom menu is visible or hidden.
  1. Configure Menu Name:

    • In the CustomMenu node of the “Profiles” array section, cconfigure the name of the custom menu you want to add. Save the configurations made in the custom_ui.json file.

  2. Hard refresh the Bold BI page to see the results

If two menu items are configured with the same “Order”, the last configured item will take the next order on the menu. For example, if Menu1 and Menu2 are configured with Order as 5, then Menu1 will be in order 5 and Menu2 will be in order 6.

Use case scenario:

If you have Bold Reports integrated with Bold BI, you can customize the menu to add navigation for your Bold Reports site from the side navigation menu customization.
