How to Merge Cells in Grid

Published:

At present, the default grid widget in Bold BI does not support cell merging. However, this functionality can be achieved through the use of a custom widget. Merging cells in a grid is a valuable feature that significantly enhances the organization and presentation of data in tables or spreadsheets. It enables users to combine multiple cells with similar values into one, thereby improving the overall readability and clarity of the data.

To incorporate the custom widget into the Bold BI application and utilize its functionality, please adhere to the following guidelines:

Step 1: Download the Grid custom widget.

Step 2: Publish the custom widget to the Bold BI application by following the steps in the help link.

Step 3: Once you publish the custom widget, the Grid custom widget will appear under the Miscellaneous section of the designer panel as in the following image

Merging Cells

When identical data values appear in subsequent rows within a Grid, the corresponding cells are automatically merged. This feature enhances the readability of data by reducing visual clutter and emphasizing the continuity of similar values.

Excluding Columns from RowSpan Merging

In the properties panel of the Grid custom widget, there is an option labeled “Column Name to Ignore RowSpan.” This feature allows users to specify certain columns that should not have their cells merged, providing greater control over the display of data.

Conditional Formatting of Columns

In addition to merging cells, users can apply conditional formatting to merged columns. This enables dynamic visual indicators based on the data, improving the overall user experience and making it easier to highlight important information quickly.
