Getting Started with Embed Sandbox in Bold BI

The Embed Sandbox is an evaluation playground designed for users to explore Bold BI dashboards and their concepts within an embedding environment. This article provides an overview of the features and functionalities available in the Embed Sandbox.
When a user signs up for the trial, we create a user account using their email ID and add 5 default dashboards and 7 sample data sources for them to explore.
Key Features of Embed Sandbox
1. Dashboard Management
- Create Dashboard: Users can create their own dashboards using the create button in the sidebar.
- Edit Dashboard: Users have the ability to modify and customize existing dashboards to better suit their needs.
- Dashboard Limit: Users can create up to 15 dashboards. To create more, existing dashboards must be deleted.
2. Data Source Management
- Create Data Source: Users can create new data sources to import and manage data displayed in their dashboards.
- Supported Connections: The Embed Sandbox supports the following connection types:
- MSSQL
- PostgreSQL
- Excel
- CSV
- Web API
- Default Data Sources: Users cannot edit or delete the default data sources provided but can create new ones.
3. User Permissions
- Dashboard Management: Users can edit and delete default sample dashboards and create new dashboards within a specified category, but cannot create new categories.
- Data Source Management: Users can create new data sources with limited connection options, but cannot edit or delete the default data sources provided
Actions in the Embed Sandbox
View Mode
- While accessing the sandbox at first, the dashboard will render in viewer mode.
Editing a Dashboard
- To edit a dashboard, click the edit icon that appears when hovering over the dashboard name.
- The dashboard will open in designer mode, allowing users to add data sources and customize the dashboard.
Saving a Dashboard
Users have two ways to save a dashboard in designer mode.
- Using the Publish Button: Located in the designer toolbar, this button allows the user to save the dashboard.
- Using the Save Icon: The save icon is located beside the dashboard name. To access it, users need to expand the sidebar, where the save icon will be visible for the respective editing dashboard.
Creating a New Dashboard
- To create a new dashboard, use the create button in the sidebar menu, enter a name, and click the save button to move to the design view.

Launch Test Workspace
- The “Launch Test Workspace” option navigates users to the sandbox server, allowing them to experience the Bold BI server and its concepts.
Limitations in the Embed Sandbox
- Dashboard Creation: Users can create a maximum of 15 dashboards.
- Data Source Creation: Limited connection types(MSSQL, PostgreSQL, Excel, CSV, Web API) are available; for specific connections, users may need to consider product installation or a dedicated tenant for trial.
- Restricted Options: Certain options such as getting embed code, publishing, and sharing permissions are hidden in the data source listing.
