How to Resolve "library 'gds32.dll' failed to load" Error When connecting to Firebird ODBC Data Source in Bold BI

Published:

When connecting to a Firebird ODBC data source in Bold BI, you may encounter the following error message:

One or more errors occurred. (ERROR [08004] [ODBC Firebird Driver]Unable to connect to data source: library 'gds32.dll' failed to loadERROR [01S00] [ODBC Firebird Driver]Invalid connection string attribute).

This issue typically arises due to a mismatch in the bitness (32-bit vs. 64-bit) between the ODBC driver and the Bold BI application. Here’s how to resolve this issue:

Steps to Resolve the Issue

Verify Bitness Compatibility

  • Ensure that the bitness of the ODBC driver matches the bitness of the Bold BI application. For instance, if you are using a 32-bit ODBC driver, Bold BI should also be running as a 32-bit application.

Change Bold BI Bitness

  • If there is a mismatch, you need to change the Bold BI application to match the bitness of your ODBC driver. Follow the steps outlined in the Bold BI documentation to change the application bitness.

  • Refer to the following document for detailed instructions on changing the Bold BI bitness according to your use case: Bold BI Hosting with x86 and x64 Bit Wise for ODBC Data Source Connection.

Verify Connection

  • After changing the bitness, attempt to create new data sources and verify that existing dashboards created with the ODBC data source are functioning properly.

By ensuring that the bitness of the ODBC driver and the Bold BI application match, you can resolve the connection issues and successfully connect to the Firebird ODBC data source.
