How to replace null or blank values in data with some other values?

This article explains how to use the Replace Value option in Bold BI Enterprise for dimension columns (String and Date).

Replace value support at Data source Level

Replace Value support at the data source level allows you to modify all column values in the data source that are null or blank.

  1. Access the Data Source Designer Page: The replace value option is available on the Data Source Designer page. Here, you can edit null and blank values by clicking on the replace value icon.

  2. Open the Replace Value Dialog: Click the replace value icon to open the dialog.

  3. Edit Values: Use the edit icon to replace any value instead of null or blanks.

  4. Apply Changes: Click the Apply button.

  5. Save the Data Source: After saving the data source, the changes will be updated in the dashboard.

Replace value support at column level

You can modify specific column values in the data source that contain null and blank values using the replace value support at the column level.

  1. Access Column Settings: Click the Settings icon displayed above the measure and dimension columns.

  2. Edit Values: Replace the value through the Settings icon.

  3. Save the Data Source: Save the data source; the changes will be updated in the dashboard.

The column level replace value takes precedence when both the data source level and the column level replace value are used.

Configuring Replace Value in Column by Add Rule Option

port allows you to modify any values in any column from the data source, as well as customize null and blank values.

  1. Add Rule: Click on the Add Rule option to open the edit dialog.

  2. Customize Values: Customize the value to find and the value to replace, then click the Add Rule button.

  3. Apply Changes: Click the Apply button.

  4. Save the Data Source: After applying changes, save the data source. The changes will be updated in the dashboard.

Replace Value Based on Matching Case

The match case option is case sensitive, allowing you to replace specific values in a column based on a matching condition.

  1. Enable Match Case: Update the add rule and click the Apply button.

  2. Save the Data Source: After saving the data source, the changes will be updated in the dashboard.

Replace Value Based on Match Entire String

Enable the match entire string option to ensure that the replacement only occurs if the entire string in the target column matches the specified value.

  1. Enable Match Entire String: Update the add rule and click the Apply button.

Edit and Delete Rules

The Edit and Delete options can also be used to update values in the rule.

This feature is applicable to all dimension columns in the data source and not supported for measure columns.
