How to Find Original Column Names in Extract Data Sources?

Starting with Bold BI v4.2 Enterprise Edition, GUIDs are used as column names to address the issue of large column names in extract data sources. This article provides a step-by-step guide on how to find the original column names of GUIDs used in extract data sources.

Prerequisites

  • Ensure you are using Bold BI 4.2 Enterprise Edition or later.
  • The data source must be connected in Extract Mode.

Steps to View Original Column Names

1. Connect to Data Source in Extract Mode

After connecting to the data source in Extract Mode, the data design view will open automatically.

2. Click on “View Schema”

Locate and click on the “View Schema” option in the TreeView. This will open a dialog box displaying the column names and their descriptions.

3. View Schema Dialog

In the “View Schema” dialog, you will see the original column names along with their corresponding GUIDs. This dialog is particularly useful for data sources created on or after version 4.2, where GUIDs are used as column names.

4. Copy Column and GUID Names

You can copy the column name and GUID by selecting the cell and using the keyboard shortcut CTRL+C.

5. Use GUID in Code View Mode

The copied GUID name can be used in the code view mode for further querying.
