Creating a Bar Chart with Benchmark Line in Bold BI

Published:

In this article, we will guide you through the steps to create a bar chart (either single or grouped) with a benchmark line in Bold BI. This feature is useful for visualizing whether the data points are above or below a specified benchmark, enabling you to take appropriate actions based on the insights.

Steps to Create a Bar Chart with Benchmark Line

Add the Column Chart Widget

First, add the column chart widget from the widgets panel to your dashboard layout.

Configure Data Fields

Open the Assign Data panel for the widget and configure the necessary fields. This involves selecting the data that you want to visualize in the bar chart.

Create an Expression for Static Values

If you need to display a static value in the Value(s) section, you can create an expression. Configure the expression fields accordingly within the widget to represent your benchmark value.

Change Chart Type

Click on the Change button in the widget’s Basic Settings section.

Deselect Show Marker Option

In the widget’s properties section, deselect the Show marker option. This will ensure that the line appears without markers, providing a cleaner look for your benchmark line.

Additional Note: Bold BI also supports Combo Chart widgets, which can be used to combine different chart types, such as bar and line charts, in a single visualization. For comprehensive instructions on utilizing combo chart widgets in dashboards, please refer to the user guide documentation.
