Configuring Initial Filters in Bold BI Dashboard

In Bold BI, dashboard widgets are displayed according to the settings defined in design mode. This guide explains how to set up an initial filter for the dashboard using the initial selection feature in master widgets.
Steps to Configure Initial Filtering
Follow these steps to set up initial filtering for your dashboard:
1. Accessing the Dashboard Designer
- Open your Bold BI server and navigate to the dashboard you wish to configure.
- Enter the design mode by clicking the
Edit
button on the dashboard.
2. Selecting a Master Widget
- Choose a widget that will serve as the master widget, controlling the filter.
- Common master widgets include Combo Box, List Box, Date Picker or any widget that can filter data.
3. Configuring the Initial Selection
- The
Act as Master Widget
option is enabled by default for filter widgets such as Combo Box, List Box, Date Picker, Text Filter, Period Over Period, Range Slider, and Range Navigator. This option can also be manually enabled for other widgets capable of filtering the data. - To enable this option for a widget, access the properties panel typically located on the right side.
- Look for the
Act as Master Widget
option under the Filter category section and enable it to set the initial filter for the widget.
- Once enabled, you can select the values to filter the data when the dashboard is loaded.
4. Applying Filters to Listener Widgets
- Link the master widget to other widgets that need to be filtered based on its selection.
- In the designer toolbar, you will find an icon for
Filter Configuration
. By using this, you can add listener widgets to the master widget. - Select the widgets you want to be affected by the filter.
5. Saving and Viewing the Dashboard
- Once you have configured the initial filters and saved your dashboard, view the dashboard in view mode to observe the initial filter in action.
- Upon loading the dashboard, the initial selection will be applied to the widgets that have been designated as listeners for the master widgets.
Example Scenario
- You have a sales dashboard with a Combo Box widget of Year.
- Set the initial selection to a specific year, such as
2024
. - Link this Combo Box widget to various widgets, such as
Total Sales
andTotal Orders
. - When the dashboard loads, it will automatically filter the data to show
2024
sales data initially.
