Optimize Font Sizes with the Actual Font Size Property in Bold BI Dashboards
Published:
In Bold BI Dashboards, the Actual Font Size property is a feature that allows users to maintain the font size of dashboard widgets consistently across various screen resolutions and sizes.
Behavior of the Actual Font size property:
- The Actual Font Size property is designed to provide an automatic adjustment to the text size within a dashboard component, such as charts, grids, or widgets. This adjustment is particularly useful when dealing with responsive designs where a dashboard may be viewed on various devices with different screen sizes and resolutions.
- Bold BI dashboards adjust the font size of a widget according to the size of its container. However, in some scenarios, widgets on a dashboard may display variation in font sizes.
- To address this, we have implemented support for setting the font size based on screen resolution rather than the individual widget’s container size. Additionally, we have introduced scaling factor support for the widgets, allowing for adjustments to the font size when auto font size is enabled.
How to Set the Actual Font Size Property
To set the Actual Font Size property in Bold BI:
- Select the widget you want to modify.
- Navigate to the properties panel.
- Locate the Appearance settings section.
- Input the desired font size in the Actual Font Size field.
In what situation should this be applied?
- Font Size and Screen Resolution:
- When creating user interfaces, such as widgets on a dashboard, it is important to take into account how content will be displayed on various screen sizes and resolutions. For example, content that appears satisfactory on a regular monitor may appear significantly smaller on a high-resolution display, such as a 4K monitor.
- In order to improve readability on screens of varying resolutions, the “auto font size” feature dynamically adjusts the font size based on the display resolution. This ensures that the font remains legible for users, whether they are viewing the dashboard on a standard monitor or a high-resolution 4K display.
- If the content doesn’t completely fit in the widget, we can manually change the font size to ensure it displays correctly. In this case, we can establish a fixed font size for the widget rather than using automatic font sizing.
- If the numbers are not visible on different resolutions, it is important to reposition the card widget and adjust the font size in the dashboard based on the specific resolution.
Note: By default, the Auto Font Size feature is enabled for the chart widget. This feature automatically adjusts the font size according to the resolution of the client machine viewing the dashboard. Users have the option to customize or set a specific font size by disabling the auto font size and manually inputting their desired font size.
