Understanding Dashboard and Data Source Refresh in Bold BI

Dashboard Refresh vs. Data Source Refresh in Bold BI

When working with Bold BI, it’s important to understand the distinction between refreshing a dashboard and refreshing a data source. Both processes are crucial for maintaining up-to-date and accurate data visualizations.

Data Source Refresh

In Bold BI, data source refresh pertains to the process of updating the data within the internal data store, which is used for processing data from files, web data connections, and NoSQL databases. This is known as the extract mode, where data is extracted and stored in an intermediate data store. To ensure that the most recent data is available in Bold BI, you can configure refresh settings to periodically update this data from the actual source.

It’s important to note that data source refresh is specifically for Extract mode connections. For Live Web connect data sources, data source refresh is not applicable because these operate in live mode, which means the data is always current and does not require a separate refresh process.

For more detailed information on refreshing the data source, you can refer to the following knowledge base article: How do I refresh a data source?

Refresh Dashboard

Refreshing a dashboard in Bold BI involves updating the visualizations to display the latest data. This can be done for the entire dashboard or for specific widgets within a dashboard. Bold BI provides the functionality to configure scheduled refreshes based on a timer, with a default interval of 30 seconds. Additionally, there is an option to trigger an automatic refresh upon any record insertion or deletion in the associated database.

This ensures that the dashboards reflect the most current data available, whether it’s the latest data in Live mode or the last refreshed data in Extract mode.

To learn more about enabling the dashboard refresh and its options, you can refer to the following user guide: Refresh Dashboard

Conclusion

Understanding the difference between dashboard refresh and data source refresh is key to effectively managing and presenting data in Bold BI. By configuring these refresh options appropriately, you can ensure that your dashboards always provide the most up-to-date insights.
