How to create a Custom Hierarchy field in Bold BI?

Creating Custom Hierarchy Fields in Bold BI

Bold BI’s Custom Hierarchy feature allows users to create their own hierarchy field from the Dimensions section. This feature enables users to create a new hierarchy field with the necessary child fields, making it easier to view groups of data and bind them with a widget using a single field.

Configuring Custom Hierarchy

Custom hierarchy can be configured in two ways:

  1. Creating a new custom hierarchy.
  2. Adding to an existing hierarchy.

Creating a New Custom Hierarchy

The ‘Create New Hierarchy’ option allows users to create a new hierarchy field for any field they want to create in the Dimension section.

Here are the steps to create a new hierarchy in the Dimension section:

  1. Hover over the dimension field to display the action icon at the right end of the field.
  2. Click the action icon to open a menu popup.

  1. Select the ‘Create New Hierarchy’ option. A custom hierarchy will be created for the selected field.

For instance, if you create a new hierarchy for the ‘EmployeeID’ field, a new custom hierarchy ‘EmployeeHierarchy’ will be created as the parent field, and ‘EmployeeID’ will be created as the child field.

Adding to an Existing Hierarchy

Adding another field to an existing hierarchy can be achieved through the ‘Add to Hierarchy’ option.

Here are the steps to add any other field to the existing hierarchy:

  1. Hover over any other field to display the action icon at the right end of the field.
  2. Click the action icon to open a menu popup along with the ‘Add to Hierarchy’ option.
  3. Hover over the ‘Add to Hierarchy’ option. This will list all the created custom hierarchy fields.

After the child field is added to the existing hierarchy, the result will be displayed as shown in the image. You can then drag and drop the custom hierarchy into the column container and configure it with the grid widget as shown in the image.
