When the dashboard loads originally, how is the data handled in the background and where does it come from?

Understanding Data Handling in Dashboard Loading

When a dashboard loads, the data handling process in the background is a crucial aspect to understand. This process is primarily determined by the type of data source configured during the design of the dashboard. There are two modes in the data source: Extract mode and Live mode.

Extract Mode Data Source

In the extract mode, data sources store the data in a database that is configured during the installation of the Bold BI application. This mode essentially creates a snapshot of the data at a specific point in time. To ensure that the dashboard displays the most recent data, a refresh configuration for the data source is necessary. This refresh can be scheduled at regular intervals or triggered manually, depending on the specific requirements.

Live Mode Data Source

On the other hand, live mode data sources do not store data in an intermediate database. Instead, every time the dashboard loads, the data is fetched directly from the database configured in the connector. This ensures that the dashboard always displays the most up-to-date data available. However, it’s important to note that the performance of the dashboard in live mode can be influenced by the speed and reliability of the connection to the data source.

In conclusion, the choice between extract mode and live mode depends on the specific needs and constraints of your project. Extract mode can be beneficial for small datasets that don’t require real-time updates, while live mode can be useful for datasets that need to be updated frequently.
