Can I apply conditional formatting to my chart color series
Conditional formatting can be applied to a Chart widget in Bold BI. It is a valuable feature that allows you to visually emphasize specific data points based on certain conditions.
Follow these steps to apply conditional formatting to a Chart widget:
-
Configure the chart widget and navigate to the Properties tab.
-
Navigate to Formatting under the properties pane to access the formatting section.
-
Click the Advanced Setting check box to open the Conditional Formatting Window.
Within the conditional formatting, there exist three distinct categories of color types, namely Gradient, Rule, and Individual.
Gradient:
-
It allows you to apply a color gradient to your data. This can be particularly useful when you want to highlight a range of values in a dataset. The gradient formatting feature in BoldBI allows you to choose a start and end color, and the software will automatically apply a gradient that transitions smoothly between these two colors.
-
You can define your range by entering the low, mid, and high values. Once you have defined all the range, click on the Save button to update the changes.
-
If no value is entered, then the ranges will be auto calculated based on the minimum and maximum values from the data source.
-
Now, the widget visualization will be updated based on the conditions.
Rule:
-
Rule allows you to customize the fill color of the column chart based on one or more numerical / text conditions.
-
In the Conditional Formatting window, choose the Rule option to define the conditions for the conditional formatting on the selected column.
-
Add the required conditions for the formatting. For example, you can set conditions like “Greater Than,” “Less Than” “Equal To,” etc.
-
For each condition, you can specify the background color that should be applied when the condition is met.
-
You have the option to add multiple conditions by clicking on the Add Condition button.
-
Once you have defined all the conditions and set the background colors accordingly, click on the Save button to update the changes.
-
After applying the conditional formatting, the Chart widget will now render with the specified colors based on the conditions you have set.
Individual:
-
It allows you to apply different colors to individual data points in the chart widget.
-
To apply color to the series, select the Individual option in the Conditional Formatting window.
-
Using the Color Mapping type, you can apply the colors to the series either based on Data or Index.
-
Data allows you to apply color for chart series based on data.
-
Index allows you to apply color for chart series based on index.
-
Select any one of the Color Mapping type and click on the Save button to update the changes.
-
If you select the Data in Color Mapping type, the widget will be rendered as shown below.
