Displaying Percentage Value for Configured Measure Field Based on Grand Total in Pivot Grid

Published:

The Pivot Grid widget is a powerful tool for analyzing and visualizing data. One of its key features is the ability to display individual measure field values as percentages of the grand total. This is especially useful for comparing parts of the data to the whole and gaining insights into the relative importance or contribution of different data segments.

This functionality is accessed through the Show Value As option. When you use this option, the Pivot Grid widget calculates the value of each measure field as a percentage of the grand total of that field. The following options are provided under the Show Value As feature:

  1. No Calculation
  2. Percent of Grand Total
  3. Percent of Row Total
  4. Percent of Column Total

Steps to Display Percentage Values for a Measure Field

  1. Choose the Measure Field: Select the measure field that is bound to the Pivot Grid that you want to analyze in percentage terms. This could be a field like sales, revenue, or any other quantitative data you are working with.
  2. Locate the Show Value As Option: Find the Show Value As option in the Pivot Grid widget settings. This option is typically found in field settings.
  3. Select Percentage of Grand Total: In the Show Value As menu, select the “Percentage of Grand Total” option. This instructs the Pivot Grid to calculate each value in the selected measure field as a percentage of the grand total for that field.

Various Options for Calculating Percentage in Pivot Grids

No Calculation

This is the default setting. When “No Calculation” is selected, the Pivot Grid displays the actual values of the measure field without any percentage conversion. Use this option when you want to see the actual numerical values of your data.

Percent of Grand Total

Converts each individual value into a percentage of the grand total of the entire measure field. The grand total is the aggregate of overall total values for the measure field. For instance, if you’re analyzing sales data, this option will show you what percentage each sale contributes to the total sales.

Percent of Row Total

Converts each value into a percentage of the total for its respective row. The row total is the sum of values in the measure field within that specific row. For instance, if you’re analyzing sales data, this option will show you what percentage each sale contributes to the total sales within that specific row.

Percent of Column Total

Converts each value into a percentage of the total for its respective column. The column total is the sum of values in the measure field within that specific column. For instance, if you’re analyzing sales data, this option will show you what percentage each sale contributes to the total sales within that specific column.

When using the Pivot Grid widget’s Show Value As option to display percentage values, it is important to note that aggregated expressions and the Average summary types cannot be utilized. The Show Value As option is specifically designed to work with raw data values, allowing for accurate percentage calculations based on the grand total, row grand total, or column grand total of the measure field.
