How Does the Hierarchical Filter Work in the Bold BI Widget

Published:
Hierarchical Filtering in Bold BI Widgets

Hierarchical filtering in Bold BI widgets allows you to control the behavior of the Top N filter when multiple dimension columns are involved. This feature enables you to display data in a more organized and meaningful way based on your specific requirements.

Enabling Hierarchical Filtering

To enable hierarchical filtering, follow these steps:

1. Configure the grid widget with the desired fields, such as Country, City, and Unit Price.

2. Apply a Top N filter based on the configured measure field.

3. Enable the "Enable Hierarchical Filter" option under the Filter category in the widget properties

With the hierarchical filter enabled, the widget will display the top N values for each dimension column separately.

For example, if you apply a Top 2 filter, the widget will display the top 2 values for each country, with filtering done separately within each country.

Disabling Hierarchical Filtering

To disable hierarchical filtering, simply uncheck the "Enable Hierarchical Filter" option. With the hierarchical filter disabled, the widget will render with the top N values for a dimension column compared to all other dimension columns. In this case, filtering will consider the top N values across all dimension columns, regardless of individual columns.

By enabling or disabling the hierarchical filter option, control how the Top N filter behaves and how the data is displayed in the widget based on your specific requirements.
